Perfect for D.I.Y Ribbon mics or as replacement ribbons!
Two 1/2" x 4"strips. Enough to make four ribbons 1/4" wide.
(That's only $2.49 per ribbon foil!)
The Ribbon MIcrphone Foil is NOT corrugated! -Since you need to
cut the ribbon to your particular size, you must do this yourself. Instructions
are provided. below:
Ribbon Mic Foil Cutting Instructions:
Fold a sheet of paper in half. Starting from the fold using a ruler or other straight edge,
draw a straight line across the paper, parallel to the fold. The line will be where you
make the cut so mark it depending on how thick you want the ribbon. My mic needed a
5mm ribbon. Place ribbon in paper butted up to the fold. Now close the paper, hold
firmly and cut along the line using sharp sissors or new single blade razer. Try to do
the ribbon in one single cut!
How To Corrugate Microphone Ribbon Foil:
Some people use gears, or camera lense covers to make corrugations. Another simple
way is to Place the cut ribbon on a hair comb with thin teeth (about 14 - 24 corrugations
per inch. ) Using a soft sponge or foam, press down (not too hard) to form the
corrugations. he main trick is when you install the ribbon, not too loose, not too
tight. You'll have to play around with this but I normally leave just a bit of slack in
mine, almost so little that it still appears straight across.
Ribbon Foil Thickness Info
I only sell 4 micron ribbon. Yes, 2 micron is better but not by much, plus it's hard to find,
expensive, and very difficult to work with! Even Royer uses 4 micron ribbons in their live
ribbon mics! The volume is slightly lower but frequency responce is virtually the same.
I have repaired about 7 mics using 4 micron foil and all of them sound great!
